I’m Scared
I have been taking to the street in my Atlanta suburb every Sunday afternoon for the last year. Each time I’m a little scared. After all, this regime has sanctioned violence and prosecuted an individual for picking up a piece of peeling paint. So I invested in a body camera. My father’s advice was to always “keep an anchor to windward”.
Some days as many as ten others have joined me. Most Sundays we are four or five and sometimes, like today, I’m alone. And a little scared.
But, I am very pleased to report that over the course of a year the waves, thumbs up and encouraging shouts and honks are at least 30-1 in the affirmative.
Every single expression of support delights and encourages me. We who are on the right side of history outnumber them. I know it in my bones.
But I’m still scared.
If “did not vote” was a candidate in 2024 it would’ve won the election. Over 80 million eligible voters did not go to the polls. So I am going to keep showing up every Sunday afternoon for as long as it takes.
I have signed up to be a poll worker and a poll watcher. I plan to canvass door to door for my senate and house candidates. I am actively looking for opportunities to help turn out voters in November. Please do the same. It will take all of us all the time everywhere.
